People know her best for taking a big company in California, called Pacific Gas & Electric, to court.     Erin Brockovich finished her schooling at Lawrence High School and then went to Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. Later, she graduated from Wade College in Dallas, Texas, earning an Associate in Applied Arts Degree. She has dyslexia, a condition that makes reading and writing difficult for her.

    Erin Brockovich started her career as a helper for a law firm called Masry & Vititoe. During this time, she got involved in the 1993 case against the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. This case was about dangerous chemicals in the water in Hinkley, California. Even though she did not have any training in law, she put together a strong case. Eventually, they settled for $333 million in 1996. This was the biggest lawsuit where regular people took action directly in the US.

    After this success, Erin kept working on cases against pollution, often with a lawyer named Edward L. Masry. They took action against different companies, like the Whitman Corporation for pollution in Willits, California, and PG&E’s compressor station in Kings County, California. In 2003, they sued the Beverly Hills Unified School Administration but lost, and the school asked for $450,000 to cover their legal costs.

    In April 2009, she helped with a lawsuit against Prime Tanning Corp. in Missouri. Then, two months later, she started looking into polluted water in Midland, Texas. In 2012, she got involved in a case where kids in LeRoy, New York, were sick with strange symptoms. She thought it was because of damage to the environment from a train derailment in 1970, but no evidence was found.

Her story of taking on Pacific Gas & Electric was made into a movie called “Erin Brockovich,” starring Julia Roberts, in 2000.     Later, she appeared in a documentary called “Last Call at the Oasis” in 2012, talking about water pollution and shortages in the US. A TV series called “Rebel,” based on her life, aired in 2021.
